Right! I have been on quite a long hiatus now. Almost two months. The last post was on July 30th. Both my blogs, this one and OKS have been quite dead. Not that many people have been asking me why, but I do feel the need to explain why. Well, simple and plain, I have been busy. And not simple, plain busy. It has been a helluva hectic ass-pounding 2 months for me. And to top that, I have been dwelling in an offline world. You ask me, how’s that possible. It is, indeed. Yeah, the occasional online sessions at a cybercafe don’t count, do they?

How do you expect me to get hold of everything in the techno-blogosphere and elsewhere from a cubicle, with no-AC, a shitty keyboard which makes me hit the keys like I was Lars Ulrich, a Monitor which has its own idea of colors, a USB port which wouldn’t recognise mine, and at the end of it all , charge me Rs.35 for an hour. Bitches! All I could do was check my mail, mail back the important ones, and by that time (yes, I indeed didn’t mention the disconnections and the snail speed), the hour bell has rung.

And why was I exactly in such a place. Coz I was preparing for my education loan, back at home. And as they say, ” All’s well that ends well”. The ending was certainly happy and it marked the beginning of a new era. Here I am, in England, Southampton. I am studying M.Sc in Management Sciences in University of Southampton, and I am loving it here. Hope to write more posts soon.

Ciao!

It seems like a moment of triumph. Seems like what started as a silly hobby, and having fought many obstructions and other temptations and having not given up after almost 3 years of blogging, has finally paid off. I got my first interview published on an e-mag called Pakspectator.

It is an online magazine encompassing different topics and they feature interviews of writers, passionate bloggers, webmasters et al. I believe that I belong to the second kind. They contacted me and I couldn’t help say anything but yes. Very soon, they replied me with a long list of questionnaire which included questions on my blogging experience etc.

An excerpt:-

Is there anyone from your past that once told you you couldn’t write?

Oh yes many, including my English teacher back at school. I never gave standard answers which were marks friendly.

If you could pick a travel destination, anywhere in the world, with no worries about how it’s paid for – what would your top 3 choices be?

New York- Big Apple

Cupertino – Home of Apple

Tokyo – Home of Jap-Anime

How bloggers can benefit from blogs financially?

There are ways to generate income through blogs. Though I do not blog professionally, and haven’t made a reasonable income from my blogs, there are bloggers who make their entire living from it, and even make a killing. I am still searching for the answer to this question myself.

Is it true that who has a successful blog has an awful lot of time on their hands?

It might be true, and might not be as well. I blog whenever I can. It does not come across as a hindrance to my work (may be the other way around is true). But I do know of people who have very tight schedules but also regularly maintain their blogs which are successful as well.

Leaving aside the bandwagon of celebs (read Bollywood celebs) who cash in on their celeb status to catapult their online presence, there are in fact people with demanding careers who also blog and do a commendable job at it too.

You can read the full interview here. I feel so elated and a bit like a snob as well. Good going Sujoy!!!

Cheers!!

GMail Blog turns ONE today and the celebrations have just begun. The blog has been one of the most read blogs of the Google family of blogs, and with the feed addition of GMail blog on the homepage of GMail, this has gone up and up. Looking back at the one whole year of providing tips, tricks, tweaks, hacks and embedded features that GMail has to offer, GMail blog enlists their 10 favorite ones. Some of them are enlisted below.
Tips for importing old email to Gmail

I covered a few of them on my blog here. Well, looking back myself, I have had so much to learn and explore GMail and the constant rolling out of new features and an efficient tracking of it on the blog has kept me on my toes. And the ride got a way better and more vrooming since the launch of GMail 2.0, and then we’ve had the recent launch of GMail labs. Phew! Here’s a list of what I wrote about a few posts on Techkeyla.
I was lucky enough to cover a few of these topics and hot news on my previous blog. In my three odd months of blogging for Techkeyla so far, I wrote on topics ranging from Facebook’s “is” in status message being (not) removed to Google’s Opensocial Project to Mixx to Tech rumors floating around to even some random lists generated by my alter-ego. Surprisingly enough, people dug them and even replied to me with their comments. Based on the number of comments, MyBlogLog’s record of visits for each topic, here I have compiled a top 10 list (yeah, yet another one) of the Hot Posts of Techkeyla for 2007. So, here they are:-

These posts are arranged in no specific order. Just the Top most visited, most read and most commented posts on Techkeyla.

Complete Gmail Shortcuts :- This showed how to get a screen of the complete list of Gmail shortcuts in your Gmail Inbox screen.

5 rumors for the Black Friday:- Had to be in the list. Quite predictable

What is common between Prison Break and Blogging?:- A link to Christin Kayser’s post on Blogging Experiment trying to link Michael Scofield and a succesful Blogger.

Don’t Click Just Roll:- Dontclick.it ,an innovative way for browsing. Are we gonna see more of this soon?

BSOD Questions me:- What is so fake about the BSOD Screenshot on Wikipedia?

Is a lot, too much for Facebook:- Too many apps cluttering your profile page, has Facebook ended its neatorama and joined the MySpace clutter clan?

10 Million Dollar Challenge & Google’s Opensocial is Live:- Both stories of Google, two different things, one big GOOG.

Full length Mixx Review:- The name says it all. I received quite a lot comments and mails on this one.

The Unofficial iPhone Review:-Had to be here despite the fact that there are millions of other iPhone reviews in thousands of languages. There were no comments, but it was one of the most visited ones.

Other posts in the running, which not quite made to the list spanned across Google and Apple mostly, and Mixx coming a close third. A distant fourth exclusion was a post called iJones. Of course, there is definitely a room for error given there were 165 posts to look into, but well, you get my bias, don’t you?

First posts are always very tough to handle for me. May be it is the pressure of making the right first impression, or may be I’m taking it too seriously, as this is no longer a Blogger Blog , but a full fledged website (well at least the domain says so eh!). So anyway, it’s a new year, and a new site so let’s kick it.Oh btw, Happy New Year 2008!

So, I’m just gonna reflect on the past few days and the sleepless nights I’ve had , since 31st December 2007 when the domain was bought till today-3rd of Jan 2008, when the first post is being posted. Special mention: I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Brajeshwar for all the help he has extended me right from buying the domain, to hosting it, to even answering my silly queries filled with ignorance.Thank you Brajeshwar. But the journey from being a Hello World page to the Page you see now hasn’t been quite smooth, thanks to me being unprepared, and of course being spoilt by the drag n drop of Blogger Template. The entire procedure has been quite a long one(longer than I expected it to be) and I still know there are certain changes more to be done here and there. But it feels so good and so right to have finally come up with Techkeyla.com and moved on from my older blog techkeyla.blogspot. And I think I’m liking it here more to have been able to play around with the separate php files for sidebars, and headers and footers, unlike Blogger’s single page template code. The posts on the previous blog are still very much there, and will remain so, until Blogger one day intends to delete them.

It also helps to have a few geeks as your pals-Thanks Ashwin, Ravindra – who have helped me with the design and testing of the Template. Yeah, but the image design, and Adsense layouts are all mine.Phew!
