I am an avid Firefox user. There’s absolutely no existence of the IE on my machine in terms of usage. And well, I also use Flock, which is again a Firefox based browser. And what hooked me to Firefox at the first place was the Tab Browsing facility. With time, we all got so used to it, that we ran out of control while pressing the Ctrl+T button, and the number of tabs ran to 15 and upwards. That’s when browsing between tabs raises an issue. You can of course surf through them by the old trick-using the Ctrl+Tab button. Or perhaps putting in Ctrl+<Number of Tab> to jump directly to the desired Tab. But that limits it to only 9 tabs. What if it’s more than that? Here’s the remedy.

This one comes in really handy when you design or redesign your site layouts. Specially with so many free WordPress layouts available, it is absolutely mandatory for all bloggers to keep in mind about the end user browsing experience, in terms of the layout being stable (Techkeyla had a few problems-the sidebars had all scrolled down to the bottom, as IE doesn’t believe in resizing the images to fit the width. Had to resize them myself). But then, we cannot install all the possible browsers available and of course, not test them on multiple OS-s as well. Now, here’s the perfect solution to a complicated problem. Browsershots.org. This site enables you to test your site/blog on multiple browsers and their multiple versions available across three OS-s,viz. Linux, Windows and Mac OS. Among the listed browsers are Firefox, Opera, MS IE, Kazehakase, Epiphany, Firebird, Flock, Mozilla, SeaMonkey, Phoenix, Safari, BonEcho, GranParadiso, Galeon, Konqueror, Minefield,K-Meleon and Navigator. Here in the picture above, I tried testing Techkeyla across multiple browsers and it seems to be quite consistent in display.

Here in this tutorial , we are going to install components from terminal. It’s upto you to choose between the terminal method or go for the good old Synaptic Package Manager- Add/Remove Programs. Of the many media players available for , choose the one which suits your sensibilities or tastes, whatever. First, we are going for a GNOME based player. Just go to Main Menu –> Accessories –> Terminal. Now type this in the Terminal.
sudo apt-get install exaile
sudo apt-get install banshee
sudo apt-get install xmmms
sudo apt-get install listen*
But then we all know, Amarok rules as one of the finest KDE based players with rich features and an awesome interface. You can always choose between other GNOME based players like Exaile,Banshee and Winamp Alt. et al. But if you are the man, this is how you install Amarok by typing the following in your Terminal.
sudo apt-get install amarok
The journey from being a Hello World page to the Page you see now hasn’t been quite smooth, thanks to me being unprepared, and of course being spoilt by the drag n drop of Blogger Template. So to not repeat the same mistake, here I have prepared a To-Do List to make your Blog as beautiful as mine (if you consider it to be). As in “How to go for the default page to having a fully functional Blog page”. I presume you have your domain, you’ve hosted it and got your WordPress already installed properly. In short you can see the default Hello World page on your Homepage with the Blue Header (Read the WordPress official installation page if you at all are having problems knowing how to do so, or just type your question on that blank space known as the Google Search ). Let’s take it from here then, shall we?
To-Do List for Setting Up your Blog (From Hello World to Wassup World).:-
Being unprepared is not at all an option if you want your Blog to succeed. Success here means traffic, people visiting your Blog regularly, Subscribing to your feeds, may be clicking your ads even, but above all reading your posts and commenting on them. So you do not want your blog to look like a shabby, crumpled, torn newspaper column. I have literally read almost a 100 “How To”s over the last few days, to have come up with this list . Here we go!
- Selecting the Right Theme:-
Unless you are a CSS wizard, this one comes directly from the huge repository of free WordPress templates available online. I chose a suitable theme from wpthemesfree.com and there is just more than one to fit your need. All you need is to look around, sit, decide and finalise on the theme and of course make your own changes to fit your purpose. Important points to be noted are whether you need a two column or a three column theme, what should be the entire theme color, and most importantly the text font size. All these small things go a long way in enhancing the user experience. Template editing is of course possible, with the usual trial and error procedure.
