I had done a post before on Techkeyla about watching and downloading videos from Youtube in High Quality version. (The post is here) Not that all videos were uploaded in their High Quality grandeur, but some of them were, and we could watch them in their High Quality resolution just by adding “&fmt=18″ at the end of the video URL. Downloading it was more fun with KeepVid.com. Now, Wired.com reports that Youtube is experimenting with High-Definition videos to be aired. And it is indeed High-Definition at 720p. Have a look at the different versions of the crazily popular “Where the Hell is Matt” video.
How to Download the Youtubes Video in HD after the Jump
Here’s the Low Quality version.
Here’s the High-Quality Version of “Where the Hell is Matt video”.
Here’s the HD version of the Same Video.
Unfortunately, KeepVid is not able to download the HD version and so are other download sites like File2HD. These sites only recognise two versions of the video files-i.e. the Low Quality FLV and the High Quality MP4.
_How to Download the Files in HD?
Youtube has not rolled out all the video files in HD as yet. Only some of the files were originally uploaded in HD, and only these videos would be available as and when Youtube finishes its testing. The ones that are available in HD can be viewed by appending “&fmt=22″ at the end of the URL, and they can be downloaded (along with any other version of Youtube video-Low-Q or High-Q) by just bookmarking this Javascript code to your Shortcuts/Bookmark.
Right Click on the Link below, Save it to your bookmarks, or drag the link to your Bookmark bar.
Now when you are at a certain Youtube video page (Low-Q, High-Q or HD), which you want to download, click the bookmarked Link. This would make a link appear on the Video page, just below the embed Video bar. Just click at the download as MP4 link, or save as , and enjoy the video.
