Choosing the Right WordPress Theme
I hope you people might have noticed that I have two blogs, one is this- Techkeyla, and the other one is OneKnightStands or as most of my mates call it- OKS. It was launched alongside Techkeyla, last year when I joined the independently blogging band-wagon and left the Blogger camp. Things have been great since. Visitors multiplied, my posts got linked and I got readers from all across the world. But unfortunately I haven’t been able to write as much. So to break the hibernation, I thought of redesigning the theme. I was happy with the previous theme for it supporting my long posts and clarity of font. But I needed change. After all it was a year old. So I began my hunt for the perfect wordpress theme to work on.
Sources of Free WordPress Themes.
My search began with a google search, but it was just not quite adequate. So, the search led me to multiple other blogs and other sources which I am sharing with you.
1. Smashing Magazine
Just love this blog and the exhaustive amount of sources these guys have. Check the following posts e.g.

83 Beautiful WordPress Themes You (Probably) Haven’t Seen
2.The next huge resource for anything wordpress is Mashable. For themes, I seeked help from the following posts.

Did you miss a day on Techmeme? If that day was the 28th, you might have missed a new buzzword on the blogosphere. If not, you must be by now, jammed with the keyword-Cuil. Launched as the Google killer(yeah right) by ex-Googlers, Cuil did manage to make the entire blogosphere go haywire and make them lap it all up desperately, as if the Blogosphere was desperately waiting for a debutante. And then they talked and talked about it, about how they managed to index the web, the image results and then the hype on day 1 brought the site down. The site couldn’t handle the unexpected load on day 1 and was temporarily unavailable. But then, the question is, how did Cuil manage to create such a buzz all over? [Continue Reading]

If everywhere, everyone has been flooded with this image showing an article on INSOMNIA, it is so because KNOL is out for the public now. KNOL is Google’s knowledge base ( a way to tackle Wikipedia) of articles written by people ranging from specialised ones to bloggers to anyone stung by the writer’s bug. As if your blogger/wordpress account wasn’t enough. Google wants to centralise it all. But yeah, no one here would be interested a status update of you at 2 am. Articles here aren’t anonymous. There are personally written posts (quite long ones) on topics by people who are specialized enough to know the ins and outs.
Firstly, do NOT go to Knol.com. That is a Dutch website offering Steam machines. The business for them is so gonna break through the roof. At least they should include Adsense!! Anyway coming back, the official website of Knol is http://knol.google.com. And the homepage has a few past articles featured written by authors who are Neurologists, Proffessors at renowned Universities, and highly qualified physicians. Most of the written posts featured on the homepage are on health topics viz. Heart Diseases, Cancer, Fighting Obesity etc. But there are other topics as well. As this one, written by a certain Chewy (Geeky Geekington) who has written a post on Devil May Cry 4. And from his anonymous profile, (here known as biography of the author) we still don’t know much about Mr.Chewy. So that brings us what Knol is all about. I shall point it out in the points below. Netiquettes as we call it, is an essential part of our virtual lives-something which we have started to be quite dominantly participating in. As for geeks like me, I have been more inclined towards virtual lives and online social networking because you get to experience comments, suggestions and information which is independent and free of any pressure. So be it social networking sites like Orkut, Facebook and the like, or the zillions of Internet forums out there which span across the usual discussion topics like Technology, Web 2.0, hacks, rumors or simple plain tabloid stuff, to even niche and downright specific topics like Astro Physics or the latest episode of Naruto, all of these are being dicussed among the existent and happening forums all over in all languages imaginable. But something is very common in all these forums. And that is the presence of some malicious entity called the Spammer. He/She has the most annoying and irritating online attitude and if detected by the active members shall be reported to the Admin who then takes corrective measures through warnings or might even ban him. But then, these people do strike back with multiple profiles or gang up with some other offline pals . You surely don’t want to join that league. Like socialising in real life, online communities should have a maintained decorum . No questions that we are given the right to have our freedom of expression, but we also have to understand the responsibility of carrying it. Having said that, here I have put some of the points from the long list of Netiquettes to be followed in an Internet Forum.
1. Simple plain- Ignore douche bags.
There are too many people out there jumping out for attention, raising questions (often controversial and offensive at large). This of course at times, taking advantage of their anonymity that the Internet provides. The best way to deal with them is to give them a thumbs down by just staying away. If no member responds to any of their posts/threads, they’re sure gonna be left all alone in their perfect world and they can have all the fun of their anonymity.
2. Godwin’s Law.
The law states :
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.
As clear as that. If the conversation is getting lengthier by the day, someone in the thread would display Hitler like tendencies. So if you are the one who is invoking Hitler like approaches, you have already lost the whole point of the discussion. [Continue Reading]
